YES!  We consider the mosquito our Alaska state bird! (only kidding Wink).  There is no shortage of mosquitos and other biting insects in the wilds of Alaska.  It is rare to be tormented by the bugs while on the Kenai or out on the halibut boats.  If you do any kind of hiking or bank fishing, you will definitely want to be prepared to do battle!  I prefer to use clothes as much as possible as insect repellant.  In some cases you may need to use a topical repellant (bug dope) and in extreme cases, total body coverage clothing, including a head net.  When using the bug dope, do be careful around fishing lines because the chemicals will severely damage the fishing line, thus weakening it and potentially causing the loss of the catch of a lifetime.
